Holy Cow, Batman…

November 2nd, 2005

What an amazing weekend! Halloween in this city is amazing. I came home from a day at the office, getting off at my usual subway stop on 6th and 14th, and found a mass of people over flowing from the street level down into the stairwell. I had to fight my way out of the subway against this sea of people in all manner of costumes and decoration. The energy and excitment in the air was fully tangible, thick as butta.

Once I made it home, it was time to get out of the “look, I’m an intern for halloween” outfit and into something a little more fun. I found a store in SOHO that had some great wigs last weekend, and ended up with a fabulous long red number that was just what I needed. Marshall and I ran down to our neighborhood restaurant/bar, Metropol, which we’ve fallen in love with, for a drink and some people watching. Marshall took some fantastic pictures of some people we met at the bar… someday I’ll get him to post them up here for all to enjoy.

Anyway, the streets were crawling with all the freaks in the world. I honestly think that everyone in NY came into the West Village where I live to party. Our normally quiet street was filled with noise of people having a great time all night long. We ran amongst them for a while, danced at various clubs, and finally came home to sleep it off before work the next day, which by the way was fairly rough going after such a night.

The weekend leading up to Halloween was a blast too. People started the costume partying on Friday night. So, wherever you went the freaks were out. We ran around the city with some good friends Saturday night (I was the Green Fairy and Marshall was a pirate who made everyone drink rum), ended up dancing until the wee hours at a great club called Cielo, and then finished up the night with a limo ride home. Talk about feelin’ fabulous for a night.

This weekend we are renting a car and driving up to Massachusetts where we’ve made reservations at a bnb. I’m really looking forward to getting out of the city as fun as it is and heading out to see some of the beauty that the countryside has to offer. I have never seen the colors change on the east coast in the fall. It’s about time, and I’ve heard that this weekend will be one of the last good ones before the seasons really make the change to fall/winter.
